Envelope Punch Board Calculator

We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board Any Size Calculator (+ mini)

(also works for the newer We R Memory Keepers 1-2-3 Punch Board and the Joy!Crafts punch board - card & envelope maker and the WeRMk mini-board)

The board originally comes with a table of sizes, which unfortunately is not always useful if you make non-standard size cards (happens a lot to me! :) Moreover, there is no mention of any boxes that actually can also be made using this board. So, my dear husband made me this simple any size envelope/box calculator. Thank you Honey!

NEW! An option to use the calculator with the WeRMk mini board has been added! Choose MINI in the Board Type dropdown list.

Important Notice: if you've used the calculator before, don't get alarmed by its modified appearance! Internally, the calculation is still the same!

Just found your blog doing a search on metric - not for me but for a crafting friend that asked me if the envelope Punch Board would do metric - this is an amazing program your hubby developed - I will give it a try - love my Envelope Punch Board - never made a box with it - but will try - I also just purchased the mini envelope punch board - these are both fabulous tools that I enjoy using [PS I was blessed to WIN the first one and blessed to win a GC to purchase the mini one] have a lovely week and thanks!

  14. Thank you for offering this. Is there a way to use this generator to get an exact size?

I have used the measurements on the envelope tool itself, on the AC's generator and with custom measurements from AC itself and I simply cannot get the size envelope I want. The same size as a commercially made A2 envelope.

Here's the problem: I want to use commercially made clear -sleeves and -boxes for presentation. Either the envelope is too big (most of the time) to fit in a sleeve, or too small for the card. I've tried fudging measurements by 1/16 of an inch at a time. I've made 30 envelopes just trying to get the exact size of a commercial envelope and I've come up empty handed. I'm about to lose my mind and wanted these for Mother's Day. Any ideas for how I can conquer this task? Thanks.

  15. Hello, L BT! You may try to use my calculator to meet your purpose by selecting the _1_layer_card_ option and entering the size values 1/16" smaller than the desired envelope size. Do you mean A2 (4 3/8 x 5 3/4)? I've just tried 4 5/16 x 5 11/16 as the "card" size and it produced an A2 envelope. Hope it helps!

    1. Hi Joan,
For a _flat_ 1 layer card size 4 1/8 x 4 1/8, you have to use a _square_ sheet of paper sized 6 11/16". Use it on the envelope making board by placing the top left hand corner where the measuring scale is at 3 3/8". Hold the paper in this position, score where the scoring line lies and punch. Turn the paper 90* and proceed according to the WE R Memory Keepers instructions. Score and punch all the 4 sides of the paper.

If the card is not flat, select the "Thick Card" option in my calculator.

      Hope it helps. :)

    1. Dear Chris,

Unfortunately, the We R Memory Keepers board is not meant for "pizza" style boxes. The box that it makes is similar to an envelope, a thick 3-d envelope.

      Delete
  26. The Scor Pal and similar scoring boards are usually used for more traditional types of boxes. They also usually have manuals about how to use the boards for making boxes. Or you can look up online, but for the Scor Pal, not the We R Memory Envelope board.

  32. This is a wonderful tool and thank you for developing it and sharing it. . . but: For those of us with poor vision who struggle to craft, the pale gray font on the beautiful green background is almost impossible to read. It's far easier to see black letter against a white background (and a large font would be great, too_. I took my excellent vision for granted or many decades. . . please appreciate yours. Thanks for considering a change or perhaps a link to a page with a vision impaired calculator. Thanks again. And I apologize for typos, can't see the writing. . .

  45. My card is 5 5/8 x 4 3/8. When I used the calculator for a flat card I ended up with an envelope that measures 4 5/16 x 4 7/8, too small. Did it twice with same result. What did I do wrong?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! I tried your measurements and my envelope resulted in 5 11/16 x 4 7/16. A perfect fit. The two points that you may want to pay attention to while using my calculator with the board are: the paper sheet must be _square_ each side measuring to what is identified as "Paper size"; and the "Punch point" is something that you measure only once on the board. When you have your first score line, you do not use any measurements anymore. You just rotate the paper on the board aligning it to the score line.

  46. I have just had my first disaster. I set my measurements at 6.5 x 4.75 inches. It tells me to cut my paper 8-13/16 & score at 3-13/16. The envelope is 6-5/16 x 5 inches - way too small.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Score at 3 -13/16 is ONLY for the FIRST score line! Then you rotate your paper and align it in accordance with the rules of the board for scoreline/punch 2, 3 and 4.

    1. I just tried 9x4... 1 layer, paper size 10 1/16, punch point 3 1/4. No problem with the board. However, if for whatever reason you need to mark a point that is beyond the board's size - just use a regular ruler to extend the arm. Align, say, 3" on the board with the 3" on your long ruler.

    How do I figure a 3 1/4 x 2 3/8 (in inches) size.

    1. You always start with a square sheet. That's the rule of the WeRM board. Then you score the corners away. Just enter the size of the card into the calculator - the graphic will appear displaying a square (your original paper sheet), the score lines "cutting off" the corners, and the big green thing in the middle - that's your card.

  56. Is the 123 punchboard considered a mini in the settings of your app? Or should I choose standard? Thank you

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi, genspy. 123 is a standard board. The Mini is the board that is officially called Mini (envelopes punchboard), it is almost half the size of a regular envelope board and makes smaller envelopes.

  58. Hi! Thank you soo much for this! I ahve a regular punch boar but I can't for the life of me understand how to find the score line 2 15/16"! My paper size is 4.5x3.5 inches! Thank you for your awesome work! <3

    Replies
    1. Hi, Tali,

The board's precision is 1/8", my calculator gives 1/16" for even more accuracy, so 2 15/16" is even closer to 3 than the board's 2 7/8", it is actually in the middle between 2 7/8" and 3". This is where you put the corner of your square sheet of paper. The paper sheet has to be _square_ ! The size is indicated by Paper Size in the calculator. All the four sides of your paper sheet must be equal to this number.

The Paper Size is the size of the paper sheet you are using for making the envelope. It is different from the size of your _card_ which is the measurements of your card entered into the Length and Width fields. These are the numbers you enter manually yourself, the rest is calculated from them.

      Hope it helps :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 6cm x 4cm is never 11.49, so check the settings you are using - the type of the board (Standard/Mini); the Metric/Imperial measurement type; the type of the card.

Anyways, the numbers in the brackets just explain how the main number is calculated. They do not have any practical value for a card maker, only for those, who are curious about the mathematics of the process. You are free to ignore them completely and just use the one outside the brackets to make your envelope.
